Samsung ropes up an expert from Apple for Exynos chipsets

According to the reports, Samsung has roped in Kim Woo-pyeong as the Director at its Packaging Solution Centre in DSA headquarters. For context, Kim is now an ex-Apple employee working there for the last 9 years. Kim had worked at Qualcomm and Texas Instruments before heading over to Apple and now, Samsung. Samsung is likely roping in Kim to play a critical role in Samsung’s attempt to revamp its Exynos chipsets although the exact role remains shrouded in mystery and neither mentions that he would work on the chipsets at all. Samsung recently made a huge announcement about entering production for chipsets using the 3nm manufacturing technology. Figuratively, the new fabrication node brings 23% better performance and 45% improved power efficiency when compared to the 5nm nodes. Apple is currently working on its next-gen A16 Bionic chipsets which are based on the same 5nm node as its predecessor. It could act as a distinction between Samsung and Apple’s solution given that the former is using a much more advanced fabrication node. As of now, the 3nm chipsets could arrive as early as with Galaxy S23 series whereas the revamped Exynos chipsets are expected to roll out in 2025 if the estimated and speculated timelines are to be believed.
